(BEDFORD) - Rotary Club of Bedford will recognize Dr. Medhat Girgis for his contributions to Lawrence County.

The honor exemplifies the true spirit of the Rotary motto, "Service Above Self."

This year, Dr. Medhat Girgis will be the recipient of the 2014 Rotary Club Annual Toast, slated for May 10 at First Baptist Church's Christian Life Center. A social hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Girgis, a popular physician with a generous spirit, reigned as grand marshal of the 2012 Limestone Heritage Festival Parade. Medhat was born in Egypt and he and his wife Monda arrived in Bedford in 1972 from New York. They have three children and seven grandchildren. Their eldest son, Kamal, also a physician with Indiana University Health Hospital, is married to Bedford Mayor Shawna Girgis.

Advance tickets are $14 and can be purchased at Copy Trolley, the Bedford Chamber or from any Rotarian. Tickets are $16 at the door.

All proceeds go to the Rotary Scholarship Fund.
