(BLOOMINGTON) - Rachel Gonzalez-Martin has recently joined City of Bloomington as Latino Outreach Coordinator in the City’s Community and Family Resources Department.
Gonzalez-Martin is a lecturer with the Latino Studies Program at Indiana University with a research specialization in the politics of gender and family relationships within immigrant communities. She has done extensive first-hand fieldwork around the country with Latino youth and immigrant families.
"The City of Bloomington Latino Programs and Outreach serve our community's Latino population by providing support to Spanish-speaking residents and promoting diversity and cross-cultural understanding. Rachel's academic background and firsthand experience will enable us to continue growing in our mission of being an inclusive and welcoming community," said Pete Giordano, Director of the City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department.
Gonzalez-Martin is originally from California and attended the University of California where she received a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology. Her Ph.D. will be conferred in May from Indiana University in Folklore and Ethnomusicology with an emphasis in U.S. Latino expressive traditions.
