(BLOOMINGTON) - Six Bloomington police officers are working new beats as "downtown resource officers," offering support to those experiencing homelessness, especially those facing mental health and addiction issues.

The Herald Times reports that the new homeless outreach program is a collaborative effort between officials representing city government, city police, Centerstone, IU Health Bloomington Hospital, Shalom Community Center, the Monroe County Public Library, the Monroe County Probation Department and a variety of faith-based groups.
