(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man who admitted to breaking into his landlord’s home was sentenced to probation.
36-year-old Jason Carlile was sentenced Monday in Lawrence Superior Court I after he plead guilty to burglary, a Class C felony.
Carlile was arrested in May 2012 after he was seen going through a window of a home in the 7400 block of Tunnelton Road. According to court documents Carlile allegedly took one wrench from the home.
Chief Deputy Prosecutor Tim Sledd argued that Carlile had been on probation as a juvenile and as an adult and was out on bond for another crime when he committed this one. And was on house arrest waiting for his court appearance on the new charge and during that time he tested positive for using meth. He also has a lengthy substance abuse problem with eight prior arrest on alcohol and marijuana charges.
Judge Michael Robbins sentenced Carlile to four years with the DOC. That sentence was suspended and Carlile was given credit for 232 days he has already served and will spend a year on supervised probation.
He will also finish the ADAPT drug and alcohol program and pay fees and court costs. Robbins also warned Carlile if he failed a drug screen while on probation he could serve the rest of his sentence in prison.
