(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after the driver of the vehicle he was in was stopped for a traffic violation Sunday night.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, an officer stopped the vehicle which was traveling at a very slow rate of speed on Washington Avenue.

The officer followed the vehicle and then witnessed it pull into the path of another vehicle at the intersection of at 25th Street and Mitchell Road.

The officer stopped the vehicle.

Parlsey says when the officer approached the vehicle they smelled the distinct odor of burnt marijuana.

When the passenger, 19-year-old Austin Goen, exited the vehicle the officers noticed an unsheathed knife in the small of his back.

Police asked Goen to remove the knife and asked if he had any other weapons. Goen told police he had another knife in his pocket.

When police searched Goen's pockets they found the knife and a straw with a white substance on it and a baggy of marijuana and meth.

Goen was arrested and charged with possession of meth, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The driver,17-year-old Jesse Burton of Bedford, was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
