(BLOOMFIELD) - Alexander Bartlow, a senior at Bloomfield High School, was presented with the 2014 Lilly Scholar Award for Greene County on Monday morning.

Bartlow will be attending Purdue University in the fall studying Marketing and Finance. He is the son of Mark and Julia Bartlow of Bloomfield.

He will receive full tuition to an Indiana college of his choice and a $900 yearly stipend for required books and equipment.

He is member of National Honor Society, Student Government, Business Professionals of America, Spanish Club, Chess Club, Environmental Club, Robotics Club, Science Club and has been involved in Student Publications.

He is an active member of his community through Christian Service Club, student mentoring and by volunteering for the Salvation Army, Red Cross, Calvary Baptist Church, and many other worthwhile events and organizations.

The Greene County Foundation scholarship committee, comprised of members from throughout the county, interviewed the top five finalists and the field was narrowed and the finalists' names were submitted to Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc. (ICI) for the selection of the recipient.

ICI is a nonprofit corporation that represents 31 regionally accredited degree granting, nonprofit, private colleges and universities in the state.

The scholarship is the result of a statewide Lilly Endowment initiative to help Hoosier students reach higher levels of education. Indiana ranks among the lowest states in the percentage of residents over the age of 25 with a bachelor's degree.
