Last updated on Thursday, March 20, 2014

(MITCHELL) - An Orleans woman admitted to taking illegal drugs before she crashed her vehicle at the intersection of Ind. 37 and Clover Lane Wednesday just before 9 p.m.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 27-year-old Joni Knight told police she had blacked out just before she crashed her vehicle.

According to witnesses, Knight was traveling south on Ind. 37 when the 2004 Kia Optima she was driving drifted off the west side of the road, went down a culvert then ramped off the south end of the culvert and landed back on the shoulder of the road where it stopped at the intersection of Ind. 37 and Clover Lane.

Knight complained of neck and head pain. Her 2-year-old daughter was unrestrained in the front seat and suffered redness to her face and pain after the air bag deployed. Her 1-year-old son, who was in the back seat in an unsecured car seat, had redness to his face and complained of pain. All three were taken by ambulance to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital for treatment.

While at the hospital, Knight did submit to a blood-alcohol test. Those results are pending.

Knight was cited for having no driver's license in possession, expired license plate and issued two citations for child restraint violations.
