(JASONVILLE) - The Friends of Shakamak are offering a unique chance to try some new wild game food items at the Third Annual Beast Feast Saturday night at Shakamak State Park near Jasonville.
In past years culinary delights at the pitch-in dinner have included: venison, alligator, fish, duck and geese dishes.
Event Coordinator Vanessa Phillips is encouraging residents to come out to the fun event hosted at the Shakamak State Park Group Camp Mess Hall. Doors open at 5 p.m. with dinner served at 6 p.m. Advanced tickets are $5 and $8 at the door. Children 3 and under can eat for free.
With each ticket, patrons will be entered into the .22 caliber Henry Pump Rifle raffle. The gun is valued between $400 to $500. Residents will get a second ticket for the firearm raffle if they bring a covered dish made with wild game.
Patrons are also encouraged to show off their wild game mounts and furs.
Patrons can also stay the night in the dorm-style cottages at the park for $5 a person and that includes breakfast in the morning.
Guest speaker will 2006 Shakamak High graduate Krysten (Steurwald) McDaniel, who is an avid hunter and was recently featured on the television show Dressed to Kill TV, which airs on the Sportman's Channel.
She's taken down a bear in Canada, a Blue Wildebeest in South Africa, as well as deer and other game across the United States. She is planning on a hunting trip this month to New Zealand to hunt Red Stag. One of her prized hunts was a large Indiana whitetail buck taken down earlier this year with her bow.
