Spring Mill State Park Wins Property Achievement Awards

Last updated on Friday, March 28, 2014

(MITCHELL) - Spring Mill State Park was praised by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources for exceeding a million dollars in revenue last year at their concession stand.

The Times-Mail reports thaT the park was awarded two Property Achievement Awards that honored special projects or initiatives. The awards were distributed during the DNR's annual award ceremony earlier this month.

According to Property Manager Mark Young, the park use to bid out its concession stands through contract, but six years ago the park has a hard time getting individuals to renew their contracts because of unpredictable weather and difficulty maintaining customers.

That is when the park staff took over the camp store and the Village Mercantile locations.

According to Young, 25 percent of the gross revenue for the park now comes from concessions.
