Last updated on Saturday, March 1, 2014

(LINTON) - Officers from the Indiana State Police, Linton Police Department and the Greene County Sheriffs Department were called to a home in the 400 block of Southwest J Street in Linton Friday just after 6 p.m.

According to ISP Sgt. Curt Durnil, the public information officer at the Bloomington Post, when officers arrived they found 48-year-old James Jarman on the back porch of the home with a handgun.

Jarman would not relinquish the weapon.

Officers began negotiating with Jarman, but a conflict ensured and shots were fired.

Jarman was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Police say no other information can be released at this time.
