(BLOOMFIELD) - A second man in the case of burglary of a rural Bloomfield residence in late January is in the Greene County Jail.

The Greene County Daily World reports, Samuel William Bates, 25, Bloomington, was booked in around 1 a.m. Monday.

The other suspect in the burglary, Michael R. Ray, 32, Springville, was arrested in early February.

Warrants were issued for the arrest of both men on Feb. 3 following an investigation by Greene County Sheriff's Deputy Shawn Cullison.

In the case of Bates, a second warrant was issued for his arrest, on a petition to revoke his probation in a Monroe County criminal case.

The two are accused of stealing several guns and a lock box containing cash from a home on State Road 54 east of Bloomfield between 8-9 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30.

Police believe entrance to the home was gained through a dog door on the side of a garage attached to the home.

Deputy Cullison reported four guns were missing including a Glock model 23, a Phoenix 22LR model HP22A, a Winchester 30-30 lever gun and a Remington 22LR semi-automatic rifle. The guns were taken from a gun safe inside the garage, which may or may not have been locked.

The paperwork for the guns was in a lock box which was also reported missing. Also taken from the lock box was a debit card, a wallet containing cash, and a large amount of cash.

The deputy was able to obtain cell phone numbers for both Ray and Bates and he, along with deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff's Department, attempted to contact the two suspects by phone. They were unsuccessful. The criminal cases were filed and bench warrants issued.

Bates, who was supposed to report daily to a probation officer in Monroe County, missed his appointment on the day of the burglary.

Bates is being held on a bond of $19,000 cash only, with no ten percent allowed.
