(DAVIESS CO.) - Local leaders and emergency personnel from Pike and Daviess County and state leaders met with the Indiana Department of Transportation to talk over safety on State Road 257 at the Daviess Pike County lines.
During major flooding, usually in the spring and fall, the road is closed due to high water, but people over the years have ignored barricades and driven through the waters and some have ended up losing their lives.
The latest was Katheryn McGill in December. Her body was recovered earlier this month.
The Washington Times Herald reports that one suggestion made to make the area safer was to install gates on Capehart Bridge and further south on State Road 257 on the Pike County side of the river and to install additional signage in the area, especially when the river rises.
INDOT is looking into the suggestions.
