(PAOLI) - Paoli students will start their school day 15 minutes earlier beginning Tuesday,March 18 through May 30.
The move will make up a portion of the 12 school days students missed because of bad weather.
Paoli Superintendent Casey Brewer says the biggest impact in start time will be to students who arrive at Throop Elementary School after 8:10 a.m. or Paoli Junior-Senior High School after 8 a.m. Those students would need to arrive earlier than 8:10 a.m. or 8 a.m. respectively.
The changes will not affect bus schedules, either. They will continue to pickup and drop off students at the same time.
The make-up option came after debate within Corporation Discussion Committee, an 11-person group composed of three administrators and eight teachers. Brewster explained that five of the 12 days missed will be made up during the second week of spring break. An additional four days will be made up in May during the week of Memorial Day.
The Indiana Department of Education also granted an unconditional waiver for making up two days. This left administrators with one instructional day to make up.
Adding 15 minutes to the school day will also allow the school to make up two days, which is one day more than needed. This will give the school corporation one-day buffer in case any additional days are missed before the end of the school year.
