Odon Facing Fines Because of Wastewater Issues

Last updated on Monday, March 3, 2014

(ODON) - The Town of Odon is facing fines of up to $500 per day as a result of environmental issues with the town’s wastewater utility.

The Odon Journal reports that Odon's 40-year old wastewater system has failed to meet minimum EPA requirements for several years.

The Environmental Protection Agency is concerned about repeated instances in which flooding causes wastewater to be directly discharged into Kane Ditch.

The EPA has issued an order requiring the Town of Odon to take immediate action to eliminate the entry of untreated wastewater into the area's waterways.

But the cost of rebuilding the Odon's wastewater treatment plant is estimated at more than $4 million and currently the town does not have the funding to take on the project.
