(NEW CASTLE) - The Mitchell Junior High dance team placed first in the Indiana High School Dance Team Association’s state finals Saturday.
The competition was held in New Castle.
The team competed in the Novice Junior High Division VI category, placing first among 10 teams. It is the second time the team has won the state title, the first was in 2013.
The Mitchell High School dance team placed fourth in the Elite-Varsity Division I category with its kick routine and eighth with its jazz routine.
Among ensemble performances Friday, the high school duo performance of Fiona Schlegel and Kyann Terrell placed eighth. The junior high ensemble - Sarah Bredeweg, Emily Brothers, Madeleine Powell and Olivia Lagle - placed second.
The junior high squad is coached by Erica Slaughter. The high school team is led by Michelle Jones.
