(MITCHELL) - The Mitchell High School band is traveling to Washington, D.C. this summer to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the national anthem.

The band will tour sites around the capital and go to Fort McHenry near Baltimore where the anthem was penned. They will get to perform at a national monument or memorial on Flag Day, June 14.

The Mitchell band parents have been helping the MHS band raise funds for the trip. The latest fundraiser was a concert by the Stardusters Little BIG Band, an Italian dinner and a silent auction.

They wish to thank the following for donations to the auction: Stardusters, the Kirk family, Cheryl Haworth of Premier Designs, Kristina Sears of Thirty One, Marian Cash of Pampered Chef, Ray and Sue Robison, "Past, Present, & Future" of Susan Edwards, Golden Corral (Bedford), the Garland family, Architectural Stone Sales, Lighthouse Christian Bookstore, Mid-Southern Savings Bank, Bloomfield State Bank, Crane Federal Credit Union, Mike Branham for Lawrence County sheriff, Lori Butterfield of The Cut Hut, Joanne Symcox, Penny's Discount Tobacco, Terri Quackenbush, Jerry Hancock, the Phelps family, and Leah DeWeese of Thirty One.

Other donations for the event came from JayC Foods, Curtis Orthodontics, Wal-Mart, Dollar General (Mitchell), CVS (Mitchell), ACE Hardware, Chicago's Pizza, Joanne Symcox, and Penny's Discount Tobacco.

We also wish to thank Johnny's Signs, WBIW's Talk of the Town, WFIU's Just You & Me, Mid-Southern Savings Bank, and the Times-Mail. All helped the band get information out to the public about the fundraiser.

The MHS band also appreciates the help received from Root's RV & Sales, Good Sports, Papa John's Pizza and Mr. Gatti's Pizza.

The MHS band parents have raised enough money to pay for the motor coach and are still working to help pay for other trip expenses.
