Last updated on Monday, March 24, 2014

(PAOLI) - Three Orange County High School Seniors have been named winners of the Daughter of the American Revolution Good Citizen awards.

The Lost River chapter of DAR, presented awards to first place winner Kade Hinkle, of Springs Valley High School, Lily Eubank, from Paoli High School, and Andrew Ross, from Orleans High School.

Students were selected as finalists after writing essays on citizenship.

The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest was established in 1934 to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools and communities.

Students, who were selected by their teachers and counselors, demonstrated these qualities. The program is open only to high school seniors whose schools are accredited by the board of education in a given state. Once a student is chosen as the DAR Good Citizen, the student is invited to participate in the scholarship portion of the program, which involves writing a personal statement and an essay.

Teri West served as chairwoman of the DAR Good Citizens awards presentation that was held at Blueberry Hill Estate in Paoli. Jane Henry is regent of the Lost River DAR.

The DAR is a nonprofit, non-political, volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America's future through better education for children.
