(BEDFORD) - Superior Court II Judge William Sleva entered not guilty pleas Thursday morning, for two teens charged in the murder of Rodney Allender.
16-year-old Dillon Hicks appeared in court first.
Judge Sleva advised him of his rights and then read the charges of murder and robbery resulting in seriously bodily injury. He was then advised if found guilty the possible penalties for each crime.
Hicks, dressing a striped jail uniform and an orange jacket with inmate printed on the back was also shackled at the wrist and legs.
He told Judge Sleva he understood his rights and the offenses he is charged with.
Judge Sleva then appointed Public Defense Lorinda Youngcourt to represent him. Youngcourt is currently representing Hicks on other pending juvenile offenses.
Hicks will appear for a pretrial conference on May 1 at 9 a.m.
Second to appear was 19-year-old Taylor Flynn. He too was advised of his rights and the charges. He is being represented by Martinsville Attorney John Boren.
Flynn will appear for a pretrial conference on April 28 at 3 p.m.
Both teens were denied bond.
Also charged in the crime is 18-year-old Austin Curtis, of Bedford. Curtis appeared in court Tuesday for his initial hearing. Judge Sleva entered a not guilty plea for Curtis. Since his appearance he has hired Bloomington Attorney Sam Shapiro.
He too was denied a bond. His next court appearance is a pre-trial conference scheduled also for April 28.
If found guilty of the murder the teens could serve an advisory sentence of 55 years, a minimum sentence of 45 years and a maximum sentence of 65 years in prison and fined up to $10,000.
If found guilty of the robbery causing serious bodily injury. They could face an advisory sentence of 30 years, a minimum of 20 years and a maximum of 50 years and fined up to $10,000.
