Last updated on Wednesday, March 5, 2014

(UNDATED) - The Lawrence County Drug Task Force has responded to two reports of meth labs in the last three days.

On Saturday, at 5:37 p.m. an officer were called to a home in the 100 block of Mason Street in East Oolitic to investigate a theft.

According to Sheriff Sam Craig the homeowner had not been home in several days.

While the officer was investigating the theft, he discovered items associated with a one-pot meth lab and called members of the Drug Task Force.

The DTF officer found three one-pot meth labs that had been discarded. This case is still under investigation.

Then on Monday at 6:29 p.m. there was a report of a resident finding a backpack containing drug related items in the 4000 block of Port Williams Road.

A backpack was found by lying in the woods about 75 yards from the roadway in the Hoosier National Forest.

A DTF officer was called to the scene and discovered the backpack contained items used to make meth. No lab was found.

Sheriff Craig is urging residents to be careful when finding unknown items and backpacks.

"The chemicals in these containers are hazardous," he added. "If anyone finds these type of items they should leave them where they are and call police immediately."

Anyone with information on these or have information about drug activity can call anonymously by using the Lawrence County Police Department tip line at 277-2020.
