Dottie Sherwood Art Show: Light and Shadow

Last updated on Monday, March 24, 2014

(BEDFORD) - The Wiley Art Center will host a show by prize winning artist Dottie Sherwood, beginning with an opening reception on Friday, March 28, from 5 to 7 p.m.

An accomplished painter in acrylics, Dottie specializes in landscapes and close-ups featuring nature and flowers. Paintings will be offered for sale from March 28 through April 19.

The Wiley Art Center is located at 14th and J Streets in downtown Bedford. Hours are Thursdays and Fridays 1 to 6 pm and Saturdays 9 am to 1 pm.

Visitors to Spring Mill Inn are familiar with Dottie Sherwood's hand painted saws and other art work depicting rustic cabins and other local scenes. An accomplished painter in acrylics, Dottie specializes in landscapes and close-ups featuring nature and flowers. She also loves to experiment with sketching, pastels, stenciling, and painting on china.

Dottie was born and raised in Lawrence County on the family farm on Sherwood Road in Bryantsville. Among other hobbies, she enjoys working in her yard and growing flowers that often become the subject of paintings. She attends the Bryantsville Church, where she draws or sketches an artistic heading for the church calendar each month.

An original member of the Lawrence County Art Association, Dottie has displayed her work throughout the county and serves on the Persimmon Festival committee. She is a frequent prize winner at the Persimmon Festival and other art shows. Recently she completed a baptistery scene for the Woodland Bible Camp in Linton, Indiana.

Dottie is available for custom work, often painting old family photos or creating scenes by combining multiple sample images into a single work of art.

She loves working from photographs, saying, "A photo captures and isolates the subject, yet allows me the liberty to add or subtract."

Dottie's philosophy is, "We can see art in all things... light and shadows in nature are all around us."
