(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Commissioners voted Tuesday morning to change the name of Swifty Lane to Fortner Road.

Patti Fortner requested the name change in honor of her late husband Denny Fortner and his family.

"The family has always lived in that area," Fortner told the commissioners. "All seven of the boys served in the military and everyone that lives on the road is on board with the name change."

The Commissioners also approved an ordinance that would make Stone Crest Drive and Bennett Road a 3-way stop.

They also voted to change the configuration at the intersection of Pond Lane/Williams-Silverville Road and Ridge Road. Currently there is a yield sign at the northeast corner of the intersection on Ridge Road. That yield sign will be removed and placed in the southwest corner of Williams-Silverville Road.

They also changed the configuration at the intersection of Twin Ponds Road/Stumphole Bridge Road which currently has a yield sign at the northeast corner of the intersection at Twin Ponds Road. That sign will be removed and replaced with a stop sign in the southwest corner of the intersection on Stumphole Bridge Road.

The commissioners say the sign should be in place as soon as today.

He also told the commissioners that work will begin to install a wheelchair lift at the south entrance of the courthouse and work is being done on the security doors at the rear of courthouse plaza.
