(DAVIESS CO.) - A body that was discovered Friday afternoon at the site where 31-year-old Cathryn McGill was swept away by flood waters is that of McGill.
An autopsy that was performed Saturday afternoon at the Vanderburgh County Coroner's Office ruled McGill died from drowning.
McGill, of Des Plaines, Illinois, was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by her husband, 35-year-old Adam McGill, when their vehicle was swept off the roadway in flood waters on highway 257 near the Pike County and Daviess County line.
A waterfowl hunter watched a vehicle headed south on Highway 257 trying to navigate flood waters. After seeing the vehicle get swept off the roadway, they drove their boat to the area the vehicle was last seen.
Screams for help were heard and Adam McGill was rescued. But they couldn't find Kathryn McGill.
At approximately 1:45 p.m. Friday, a local resident discovered a body lying on top of some corn stalk debris near the mouth of a creek that feeds into the White River.
This area was the initial search area, where the vehicle was swept away by flood waters.
Indiana Conservation Officer's Operational District 7 Head Quarters was contacted. The Daviess County Coroner's Office, The Pike County Coroner's Office, Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department, Indiana State Police, and Indiana Conservation Officers arrived at the scene.
