Bedford Officials Leave Today For China

(BEDFORD) - Today, five Lawrence County residents left on a journey to China in the latest cultural, educational and business exchanges.

This will be their second trip to establish business relations with business and governmental leaders in the cities of Beijing, Hangzhou and Fenghua.

Making the trip are Executive Director of the Lawrence County Economic Growth Council Gene McCracken, Mike Kern, a local businessman who is president of the growth council and has experience dealing with companies from Asia; North Lawrence Schools Superintendent Gary Conner, Bedford Mayor Shawna Girgis.

They will travel at the expense of the growth council. Youth Ambassador of the Bedford Chamber Macy Kikirk, will also be making the trip, but at Girgis' personal expense.

The group will tour two schools and three factories in Fenghua and meet with some of the Fenghua officials who visited Bedford in December 2012 and November 2013.
