(BLOOMINGTON) - The Bloomington Police Department has made an arrest in the Old National Bank robbery that happened Monday morning.
Eric D. Shorts, 47, of Indianapolis was arrested Tuesday night in Indianapolis and charged with robbery, a Class C felony and theft, a Class D felony.
The bank, located inside the Marsh Supermarket at Kinser Pike and the SR45/46 Bypass,
was robbed at approximately 10:20 a.m. by a man who approached the teller and demanded money. The man implied he had a weapon, but no weapon was displayed and no one was injured in the robbery.
Money from the robbery was recovered from the parking lot and there was evidence that a dye pack had exploded.
Tips on the man's identity were received after surveillance images of the suspect were released to the media and the suspect was believed to be in Indianapolis. BPD detectives were assisted in Indianapolis by the FBI and members of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Shorts was found and arrested on outstanding traffic warrants out of Marion County. A search of the vehicle. Police found money that was stained from the dye pack and the clothing that was worn at the time of the Bloomington robbery. Also, there were dye pack stains on the seat of the vehicle.
A search warrant was then obtained for Shorts' home in the 2500 block of North Park Avenue in Indianapolis and additional evidence of currency with dye pack stains was collected there.
Shorts was arrested and charged with the robbery. He is being held in the Marion County Jail on outstanding warrants there until he can be transported back to Bloomington.
Shorts refused to speak with investigators.
The Bloomington Police Department thanks those media outlets that posted surveillance
images provided with the initial news release sent Monday as it prompted tipsters to call
and assist with identifying Shorts as a suspect.
