Last updated on Friday, February 21, 2014

(PAOLI) - More than 120 grams of marijuana were discovered after Paoli police officers and Orange County sheriff’s deputies searched a vehicle after K9 Nero alerted on drugs during a traffic stop.

Police arrested 23-year-old Eric VanGieson of West Baden Springs on charges of dealing marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance.

The incident happened at the intersection of U.S. 150 and East Main Street in Paoli on February 12 when a Paoli officer saw VanGieson fail to stop for a stop sign. After the officer turned on his emergency lights, he noticed VanGieson reach over to the passenger side of the vehicle and push something under the seat. VanGieson continued driving onto Court Street and then turned north onto North Gospel Street. He then pulled over and stopped.

When the officer approached the vehicle, VanGieson appeared very nervous. While speaking to VanGieson, the officer noticed what appeared to be a small amount of marijuana on a paper in the passenger side floor board.

The officer then called for Nero to do a search of the vehicle. The dog alerted officer of possible drugs in VanGieson's truck. During a search, officers found two small marijuana buds, a large amount of marijuana shake (refers to the loose leaves, seeds or stems of the plant) and a one-gallon freezer bag containing 124 grams of marijuana.
