(NEWBURGH) - Two men and a woman face preliminary murder charges in connection with the death of a man whose body was found at a southwestern Indiana plant.
Authorities charged 30-year-old David John Lackey, Jr. and 22-year-old Jade Nicole Stigall, both of Boonville, on Friday with preliminary counts of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
25-year-old Shawn M. Grigsby of Evansville faces the same charges in the death of 35-year-old Joseph Nelson of Martinsville.
His body found was found last Monday by workers in the coal-handling system of the power plant at Alcoa's Warrick Operations along the Ohio River just east of Evansville.
The Evansville Courier & Press reports that at the time of their arrest, Lackey and Stigall were out of jail on bond for drug-related charges filed in December.
In addition, court records show warrants on new drug charges against the two were issued Wednesday.
Court records show that prosecutors received arrest warrants on dealing methamphetamine charges against Lackey and Stigall from Warrick Superior Court II Judge Robert Aylsworth. Those warrants were served while they were in jail Friday.
Also Friday, prosecutors filed an additional charge of conspiracy to deal methamphetamine against Lackey and Stigall.
Vanderburgh County court records show Grigsby had four felony convictions between 2006 and 2009 on charges including burglary, narcotics, theft and armed robbery.
Indiana Department of Corrections records show that Grigsby was released from prison in December. In September 2009, Grigsby pleaded guilty to burglary and attempted armed robbery and was ordered to serve at least 80 percent of a 10-year sentence by Vanderburgh Circuit Court Magistrate Kelli Fink, according to court records. Department of Corrections records showed Grigsby was paroled Dec. 30.
Kruse said multiple agencies helped with the investigation of Nelson's death, including the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office, Boonville City Police Department, Indiana State Police, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the Martinsville Indiana Police Department, United States Marshall Service and the Secret Service.
