(LEXINGTON) - 68-year-old Donald Mullendore of Ellettsville will spend the rest of the year as an inmate at the Federal Medical Center near Lexington, Ky. Mullendore pleaded guilty to illegally selling firearms from his small gun shop near the Village Inn restaurant.
Mullendore was taken to the federal prison facility last week.
He was sentenced in January to one year and one day behind bars after pleading guilty to a single count of selling a gun to a convicted felon.
Mullendore was arrested after police say he sold weapons to felons and refusing to complete required federal paperwork and background checks.
He was charged in July 2011 with 10 counts of illegally selling firearms when federal agents raided his store Mullendore Guns.
Mullendore agreed to plead guilty to one count and the other nine charges were dismissed in a plea agreement.
U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett says the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were tipped off to the illegal sale of weapons in June 2010 and began investigating.
ATF agents seized the store's entire inventory of firearms and ammunition and closed the store.
Hogsett says undercover officers and a confidential informant bought seven guns from Mullendore and that Mullendore didn't require them to fill out any paperwork to legally purchase the weapons nor did he do the required criminal history background check.
Hogsett says four of the firearms were sold to the informant after Mullendore was told by the informant that he was a convicted felon.
Mullendore told the informant that he didn't believe in paperwork because "all you are doing is telling the government where you got your guns And that everyone should own a machine gun."
