Mitchell To Seek Grants To Move Police Station Back To City Hall

Last updated on Wednesday, February 5, 2014

(MITCHELL) - Mitchell officials are planning to move the police station from the former Old National Bank building on Main Street back to City Hall.

Mayor Gary Pruett says the building downtown is too large and needs extensive repairs that the city is not prepared to fund.

The Times-Mail reports that the building was acquired by the city during former Mayor Morris "Butch" Chastain's term and converted to the police station during former Mayor Dan Terrell's term.

The city now plans to convert the two bus bays at City Hall into the police station and plans to seek grants to get the project done. But before officials can do that, they must first have an architectural drawing to submit for the grants.

Mayor Pruett says steps have been taken to get the drawing done and once complete they can apply for grants.
