Milwaukee Depot To Be Inspected For Contaminants

Last updated on Monday, February 24, 2014

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Urban Enterprise Association gave the City of Bedford the old Milwaukee depot as part of the Stellar Award.

But before that can be done, Bedford Plan Director Dan Kirk says more than $160,000 is needed to repair the depot's roof.

Kirk and Bedford Mayor Shawna Girgis say they would be open to accepting the depot, but only under certain circumstances.

The next step is to have the site of the depot tested for potential contamination and determine the cost of stabilizing the building so it can be moved.

The Urban Enterprise Board voted to have the site inspected and tested for contaminants.

Then if none are found, it would probably take at least two months to prepare to have the depot moved to the Mitchell Road location.
