Lions Club Asking For Donations Of Unwanted Eyeglasses And Hearing Aids To Help Others

Last updated on Wednesday, February 19, 2014

(BEDFORD) - Do you have unwanted eyeglasses and hearing aids stashed in a drawer?

The Lions Club could use them to change the lives of others. More than 3,000 pairs of used eyeglasses were collected in 2013 by the four Lawrence County Lions Clubs: Bedford Lions Club, Bedford Noon Lions Club, Mitchell Lions Club, and Fayetteville Community Lions Club. During that same period the clubs collected 65 used hearing aids.

The used eyeglasses are repaired and distributed at no cost by the Lions Club Collection Center to help underprivileged people in need in developing countries and Lions Club Loaner Program repairs and distributes hearing aids in need in Indiana.

The Bedford Lions Club started this collecting the items in 1972 and were joined by the Bedford Noon Lions Club in 2002, the Mitchell Lions Club in 2006, and the Fayetteville Community Lions Club in 2009 with a total of 59,150 used eyeglasses and 1,130 used hearing aids being collected during those years.

The Lions Clubs would like to thank all the businesses, churches, and organizations for their support of our ongoing collection project by placing collection boxes at their facilities.

There are now 40 locations in the Lawrence County where used eyeglasses and hearing aids can be dropped off.

The following locations collect used eyeglasses and hearing aids.
