(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University sophomore forward Hanner Mosquera-Perea was arrested and charged early Friday morning with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing endangerment.

He was taken to jail at 4:45 a.m. and then released later.

Indiana men's basketball coach Tom Crean says he is still gathering information and has not yet made a decision on Mosquera-Perea's status. However, he called the arrest "a disappointing shock to all of us."

According to LT. Craig Monroe of the IU Police Department, 21-year-old Mosquera-Perea was stopped at 3:11 a.m. in the 1200 block of E. Atwater Street after an officer got behind Mosquera-Perea's vehicle at the corner of Third Street and Dunn Street.

According police, Mosquera=Perea had the vehicle's left turn signal on, meaning the driver was planning on turning into oncoming traffic on a one-way street. The vehicle began to make the turn, but the driver at the last minute didn't make the turn. However the driver did hit the north side curb.

Police continued to follow the vehicle and the driver was swerving in and out of the lane of traffice and hit the curb a second time. That is when the officer initiated the traffic stop.

After failing a field sobriety test, and given a breathalizer, which Mosquera-Perea was found to be over .15, he was arrested.

Mosquera-Perea, a native of Colombia , played pep basketball at La Lumiere, and was averaging 2.9 points and 2.3 rebounds per game as center Noah Vonleh's primary backup. He was averaging 8.0 minutes per game and shooting 55.9 percent from the field.
