(BEDFORD) - The following is a look at who will be running on the primary ballot. The deadline to file was noon today.
Parties have until June 30 to fill a vacancy on the general election ballot. That is also the deadline for Independent candidates to file a petition.
The May 6 primary election will narrow down the field of candidates. It forces voters to vote by party, declaring themselves either Republican or Democrat. The General Election is November 4.
There are five contested races:
In the sheriff's race, Republican Mike Branham and Neil Hayes and now Sam Shaw are listed on the Republican ballot. Bill Allen, Roland Stockton and Darin Kinser will battle for the Democrat party nomination.
Lawrence County Commissioner Chris May, who represents District 1, is being challenged by fellow Republicans Rodney G. Fish and David "Bud" Nicholson.
District 1 County Councilman Keith Dillman is being challenged by Scott Smith.
And Lawrence County Councilman Michael Wright, a Republican, is being challenged by fellow Republican Raymond Briggs.
In the Guthrie township trustee race, Republicans Jeannie Harris and Nickie R. (Nick) Hubbard will face off.
