Last updated on Monday, February 10, 2014

(BEDFORD) - 39-year-old Michael R. Brown was killed this morning in a two-vehicle accident on Ind. 37 and 29th Street.

Brown was an assistant football coach at Bedford North Lawrence High School and worked as a sales executive at Ad-Venture Media Inc. (1340 AM WBIW, Super Oldies 105.5 WQRK and Z102 WPHZ).

Coaches and administrators met with team members this morning and counselors have been made available at the school for students and adults who want to consult them.

Brown was killed after his 2005 Nissan Xterra crashed into the rear of a semi-tractor trailer just before 7 a.m.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, Brown was traveling south on Ind. 37 and was approaching the stop light at 29th Street when the light had just turned green.

"The semi had just started through the light when Brown's vehicle hit the rear of the coal hopper, just a few yards south of the stop light," Parsley says. "Mr. Brown was taken to IU Health Hospital where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room."

The semi driver, 46-year-old David Jones of Sanborn, complained of neck pain. Jones was driving for Elmer Buchta Trucking in Otwell.

Parsley says Ind. 37 was blocked for about an hour this morning while officers worked the accident. Traffic was detoured around that accident from Ind. 37 to 16th Street.

"We want to thank all of the Lawrence County officers that assisted with traffic control," Parsley added.

Bedford Fire Department extrication unit assisted at the scene.
