Bloomington Man Opens Fire On Intruder Threatening His Family

Last updated on Monday, February 24, 2014

(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington couple took on an armed intruder after the man broke into their home last week in the 800 block of West 12th Street.

Bloomington Police have not located the person who broke into the home. Skot Giles says he fired his gun at the intruder and believes he hit him, because there was blood at the scene. And now there are three bullet holes in the door of his Bloomington home.

The blood and bullet holes are all reminders of the armed intruder that broke into Giles' home that he shares with his fiance.

The intruder was discovered after the woman heard a noise in the living room and went to investigate.

The intruder was armed with a shotgun and a walking stick and when he saw the woman he pointed the gun at her and demanded money.

The woman then started screaming that someone was in the house armed with a gun.

But before Giles could grab his gun, the intruder had the shotgun pointed at his head. The intruder wanted Giles' wallet and ordered him to open a safe that was in the bedroom.

The intruder had his attention on Giles, but Giles' fiance was planning the couple's escape. She was able to grab a walking stick from the intruder and swung it like a ballbat at the intruder. That gave Giles the opportunity to grab his gun. At the same time the couple's children came into the room. Giles fiance went to protect them and that is when the intruder began yelling that he was going to shoot them. Giles turned and fired at the intruder.

The intruder took off running out the door, leaving a trail of blood behind.

The intruder was wearing a bandana, a hoodie and his face was painted. Anyone with information about the intruder is asked to contact police.
