Last updated on Tuesday, February 4, 2014

(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington jury deliberated more than 12 hours Saturday and found 33-year-old Cody Wadrip guilty of one count of escape and two counts of resisting law enforcement officers.

Jurors could not reach a decision about his guilt or innocence on three counts of intimidation with a deadly weapon and found him not guilty of attempted murder, aggravated battery, two counts of criminal confinement, two counts of disarming a police officer and four counts of resisting law enforcement.

Waldrip's charges stem from an incident on January 17, 2013. A Monroe County deputy was serving a protective order and calmed Waldrip refused to comply. Waldrip then allegedly disarmed and beat the deputy.

Waldrip fled the scene. A Bloomington police officer located a vehicle driven by Waldrip near the 6700 block of East Gross Road. The officer pursued Waldrip into a nearby wooded area where a second confrontation occurred.

According to police reports, Waldrip grabbed the officer's baton, knocked the officer down and began hitting the officer in the face. One shot was fired during the struggle when Waldrip attempted to grab the officer's gun. No one was injured when the gun discharged.

After the shot was fired Waldrip took off running before he was eventually subdued and arrested.
