(BLOOMFIELD) - The Bloomfield Town Council is stressing the importance that residents filling out the income survey they will receive in the mail and return them.
The Greene County Daily World reports that the council, along with Rex Knight of the Southern Indiana Development Corporation, held a public meeting Wednesday night regarding an application for an Office of Community and Rural Affairs wastewater grant. The public hearing was the first phase of the proposal process.
Nearly 400 income surveys have been sent out to residents and should be filled out and returned as soon as possible. A second wave of grants will be sent out at a later date. Knight explained the surveys are needed to be eligible for the grant process.
Knight says, the surveys do not ask for personal information but are more like a census.
The town is working towards applying for the OCRA grant in order to upgrade the severely deteriorated sewer system, which dates back to 1963.
Knight explained there is about $3.5 million worth of funding available for the wastewater and drinking water grant. The city hopes to apply for between $300,000 to $450,000.
Brian Bullock of Midwest Engineers says the estimated cost for the implementation of the sewer liner will cost about $650,000. That improvement would be much less intrusive than having to tear up the streets to replace line.
