Bedford Man Tased Twice After Fighting With Police

Last updated on Tuesday, February 25, 2014

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was tased not once, but twice early Sunday morning after fighting with police.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley officers noticed a vehicle with the headlights on parked in the Duke Energy lot on 16th Street around 5 a.m. Sunday morning.

When police went to investigate, they found a man slumped over the steering wheel. Officers knocked on the glass to try and wake the man but got no response.

Officers could not tell if the man was breathing so they entered the vehicle to see if the man was okay.

Officers were finally able to wake 30-year-old Michael Gillespie.

Gillespie then began swinging at officers. He was asked to calm down several times and warned he would be tased if he didn't.

Gillespie continued to swing at officers and was tased.

Officer then asked Gillespie to put his hands behind his back so they could put him in handcuffs and again he refused to cooperate and fought with police. He was tased a second time.

Gillespie was then handcuffed and taken to jail on charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest by force.
