Bedford Man Injured After Falling Asleeping And Crashing His Car

(JACKSON CO.) - A Bedford man was injured after he fell asleep and crashed his car Tuesday afternoon.

Steven S. Bassine, 49, of Bedford told Jackson County Deputy Adam Nicholson that he had been driving his blue 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier east on U.S. 50 when he apparently fell asleep.

According to a police report, the car went off the north side of the road and struck a culvert head-on, causing the car to flip over at least twice. The wreck was reported at 3:20p.m. Tuesday in the 11000 block of U.S. 50 West.

Bassine was trapped inside the car, which came to a rest on its top. He was freed by deputies and ambulance personnel. Bassine suffered head and leg injuries and taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour for treatment.

Assisting at the scene were Jackson County Officer Rob Henley, Reserve Officer Brad Barker, Carr Volunteer Fire Department and Jackson County EMS.
