VITA Offers Free Tax Help

Last updated on Thursday, January 23, 2014

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Public Library and Mitchell Community Public Library will sponsor the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance again this year for Lawrence County residents.

The VITA program offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Generally those with incomes of $50,000 and below are eligible.

Only basic, individual returns are eligible (no business returns or returns for past years).

Community volunteers receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country.

Locally, each library provides a confidential environment for taxpayers, staff support, equipment and supplies.

Appointments are required at both libraries. For an appointment at the Bedford Public Library, call 275-447. For an appointment at the Mitchell library, call 849-2412.
