(BLOOMINGTON) - In February 2013 a Solsberry man was sentenced to 14 years after causing the death of Gwendolynn Sanders.
Sanders was driving a taxi early the morning of July 20, 2010, when Bryce Leighton, intoxicated and behind the wheel of a stolen car on the wrong side of the road, crashed head-on into her Yellow Cab.
The 31-year-old Bedford woman, mother of a 3-year-old son, died at the scene. 23-year-old Leighton was seriously injured.
Monroe Circuit Judge Kenneth Todd handed Leighton a 14-year prison sentence after he pleaded guilty to causing a death while driving a vehicle with a blood-alcohol content above .15 and auto theft. Police say Leighton's BAC after the crash was almost three times the legal limit for intoxication in Indiana.
According to a police report, Leighton had been at a party on Leonard Springs Road and was asked to leave. He did so, and took off in a woman's Pontiac Grand Prix without her permission
