(SALEM) - In a bizarre case, an alleged perpetrator pried open a door to a Pekin-area home and, once inside, dialed 911.
According to Washington County Police Captain Roger Newlon, the woman was hearing noises inside the home and call 911.
The Salem Leader reports that Newlon, who lives in the area, heard the address and he knew something was amiss because he was aware the homeowners were not there. A deputy was dispatched and upon arrival, found 27-year-old Amanda King, of Salem, in the garage of the home, in the resident's truck and had the vehicle in reverse and was getting ready to back out of the garage.
King tried to convince authorities she had permission to be at the home and use the truck.
A call to the homeowners proved this was untrue. Newlon says officers also discovered the back door had been pried open.
King was detained and police discovered she had keys from inside a pegboard in the home along with a picture. She also had drug drug paraphernalia on her person.
King was arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center.
She is charged with burglary, a Class B felony; residential entry, a C felony; attempted auto theft, D felony and possession of drug paraphernalia, an A misdemeanor
