Ricker Oil Company Gas and Convenience Store Could Be Coming To Bedford

Last updated on Tuesday, January 28, 2014

(BEDFORD) - A new Ricker Oil Company gas station and convenience store may be built on the southeast corner of 16th Street and Plaza Drive on the former Visteon Plant Property.

The 4,000-square-foot business, will employee 20 to 25 people, according to Travis Ricker.Doug Kellams of the Vision Group, who currently own the property and engineer William S. Riggert, representing Ricker Oil, went over the plans with Bedford Board of Works members to split the property so they could sell it to Ricker Oil company and to add a curb cut.

Plans call for the station to use an existing curb cut on 16th Street at the western edge of the East Gate property. Most customers, Riggert estimated, would use that access to the business, but Ricker is seeking a second entry off Plaza Drive South, opposite the street between McDonald's and the car wash.

Board members were concerned about traffic problems. Kellams says traffic would not be an issue like the traffic peaks caused by Visteon employees going to and from work and Lawrence County Economic Growth Council Director Gene McCracken concurred, saying any problem would be short lived because of plans to extend and improve Plaza Drive.

The board decided to table both matters of splitting the property and the curb cut until the traffic model could be updated. They are hoping to be able to make a decision by next month.
