Rannix Tinsley Announces Candidacy For Greene County Sheriff

(BLOOMFIELD) - Walter Rannix Tinsley announced his candidacy for Greene County Sheriff late Friday evening.

"I have had the privilege of serving the public as a police officer for over two decades. I have lived in Greene County for several years. Some of you are my neighbors, and some of you are friends. My kids attend the local school. I'm involved, and I care about my community. I want to be your next Sheriff, but to get that opportunity, I need your help," said Tinsley in a press release announcing his intentions.

"I am committed to making Greene County a safe place for you, your family, and your friends. I have the experience, the dedication, and the leadership abilities to get the job done. I know you will become confident and proud knowing my professional staff is at the ready to serve and protect you and your community."

The Greene County Daily World reports, according to Tinsley's press release, in 1992, Tinsley was hired as a full-time Deputy Marshal for the Town of Spencer, Indiana. In 2006, he was promoted to Assistant Chief. During his career, Chief Tinsley has compiled an extensive training record with a concentration on Leadership. He has stayed current with the academy's yearly mandates while attaining additional training which includes, but is not limited to:

Chief Tinsley is a decorated Officer. In 2004 he was recognized for "Going Above and Beyond the Call of Duty", helping to save a family trapped in a burning vehicle.

In 2009; Chief Tinsley introduced a Chaplaincy to the Spencer Police Department with Pastor Alvin McFadden of the Spencer United Methodist Church.

"As Assistant Chief, I work a shift, patrol, answer calls, and work alternate weekends. I also have the additional duties of timesheets, scheduling, purchasing, fleet maintenance, assist with hiring, reprimands, and help over-see the daily operations of the department while being the first line supervisor to six deputies, a K-9 unit, a Clerk/Crossing Guard/Meter Officer, and ten reserve officers."

Chief Tinsley attends the Solsberry Christian Church. He is a member of the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police, Moose Lodge 2482, the Owen County YMCA, the Hendricksville Area Association, and coaches Biddy Basketball at Eastern Greene Elementary School.

Chief Tinsley and his wife, Tracy (Crowe) reside near Solsberry, Indiana in Beech Creek Township. They have two children, Olivia, age: 16, and Cooper, age: 6.

Tracy works for Cook Group Engineering and Architecture.
