Public Hearing Tonight On Construction of Multi-Purpose Facilty At BNL

Last updated on Thursday, January 16, 2014

(BEDFORD) - North Lawrence Community Schools Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing tonight for residents to voice support or objections to a proposed North Lawrence Community Schools project that calls for construction of a multi-purpose facility at Bedford North Lawrence High School and other renovations.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the NLCS Administration Building on W Street in Bedford.

Specifics of the proposal will be presented in a board work session, which is open to the public, at 6:30 p.m.

The project also calls for improvements to Dollens, Fayetteville, Heltonville, Lincoln, Needmore, Shawswick, Springville and Stalker elementary schools; Bedford, Oolitic and Shawswick middle schools; Parkview Primary; Parkview Intermediate; and the Career Center.

School Board President Larry Arnold says no dollar amounts have yet been assigned to the cost of the overall project, which would include heating, ventilation and air conditioning upgrades for some of the elementary and middle schools by replacing old boilers with energy-efficient boilers.

There are two building site options for the new multi-purpose facility at BNL:

* South of the main gymnasium, with a connecting corridor and the building occupying the area of the baseball field. The baseball field would be relocated to the north side of the campus in the area east of the maintenance building.

* Or west of the main gymnasium, enclosing the area between the pool and music department. It would extend to the west and occupy the area of the driving part of the football practice field and staff parking lot.
