(CAMPBELLSBURG) - As long as residents can remember there has been a bank in Campbellsburg but that will come to an end at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, when PNC will shut its doors for good.
Residents will have to travel to Salem or Pekin branches to continue to bank at PNC.
Officials will leave an ATM machine.
The Salem Leader reports, the closing is the result of changes in banking.
"We have been going through an evaluation of our branch network over the last year plus in response to our data," says Marcy Zwieble, a spokesperson for PNC in its Pittsburgh, Penn offices. "It shows customers are banking very differently. They are choosing to use more services online and mobile channels and using ATMs more. It's changing the way customers are using branches."
Zweibel could not be specific about what the closure means for the branch employees.
"In general, when we have a branch closing we do our best to place the employees who are impacted," she said.
The Campbellsburg branch is not alone. Zweibel said PNC closed about 200 branches in 2013. One of those was located in downtown Seymour at 121 N. Chestnut St. PNC kept one Seymour branch on East Tipton Street.
There were also closings in Dayton, Ohio and Laporte, Ft. Wayne, Greencastle and Chesterfield, all in Indiana.
PNC has offices in 19 states plus the District of Columbia.
