(DUBOIS CO.) - The owners of a dog that survived being frozen to the ground in Dubois County during this week's subzero cold wave are facing animal neglect charges.

WFIE-TV in Evansville reports 55-year-old George Kimmel and 55-year-old Dorothy Kimmel of Dubois were charged after their Sheltie mix, Peanut, was found frozen to the ground Monday night outside their home.

Dubois County Sheriff's Deputies rescued the dog and took him to the county's Humane Society shelter.

Peanut is expected to fully recover, but the 15-pound canine is about half the weight he should be.

Several people have already offered to adopt Peanut.
