Oolitic Deputy Marshal Bill Allen To Run For Sheriff

Last updated on Friday, January 24, 2014

(OOLITIC) - Oolitic Deputy Marshal Bill Allen has announced his Democratic candidacy for Lawrence County Sheriff.

Allen served Lawrence County for eight years as a Police Reserve Officer for the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, and since 2007 has been an officer with Oolitic where he oversees the Reserve Officer Program.

In 2010, Bill implemented the Oolitic Police Department's K-9 program. This program has resulted in the arrest and prosecution of numerous drug offenders in Lawrence County.

In 2012 he was promoted to K-9 trainer and now oversees the training of 18 K-9 teams from various parts of Indiana. His K-9 program is used in local schools and as a law enforcement ambassador for educational programs in Lawrence County.

Bill is a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy where he received the Academic Achievement Award for top honors in his class. He was a member of the Army National Guard from 1988 until 1992.

"I am particularly interested in two areas of our Lawrence County Sheriff's department," Allen says. "The growing epidemic of drug related problems, and creating new programs and system efficiencies. Both of those will help create a safer county for all of our residents. I promise that I will work enthusiastically every day with my fellow law enforcement officers and departments and our courts to make Lawrence County a safe place to live and raise our children".

Bill and his wife Missy are the parents of three children at home, Seth (17), Alicia (15), and Katelyn (12). They also have three adult children and three grandchildren.
