(OOLITIC) - Oolitic Town Council President Delvin Nikirk is asking Oolitic residents to attend a meeting January 15 at 5 p.m. at town hall to discuss the results of a survey and other options regarding the post office.
The postal service is attempting to determine if they will be cutting hours at the post office in an attempt to save money.
Residents were sent a survey to fill out and return to the postal service.
Mary Dando, communications specialist for the USPS greater Indiana region, says the Oolitic Post Office will not close, but might reduce hours to being open only certain hours a day. Dando says the cut in hours will ensure the post office will stay open and will be more cost efficient.
Dando says customers will still have access to the retail lobby and post office boxes will not change.
Nikirk says one option on the survey is setting up a village post office in Oolitic, but that would be only as an extension of services and not as substitute for the post office.
