(MEDORA) - The National Maple Syrup Festival, conducted annually in Medora, has been canceled this year.

Organizers say the event, which revolves around the local harvest and production of maple syrup, will return bigger and better in 2015.

The festival has been conducted the first two weekends in March and attracted thousands of people to Burton's Maplewood Farm in southwestern Jackson County.

According to their Facebook page, the festival committee's vision to grow into a multi-community event has come to fruition. They have decided to take a one year hiatus to plan, organize and implement this vision.

The goal is to implement a "Hub" & "Spoke" model of the National event. This will include a hub of core events in one location with multiple spokes to several regional Maple Farms within a short drive from the festival hub in 2015.
