Year In Review: Mother And Her boyfriend Charged In Baby's Death

(SALEM) - A baby’s mother and her boyfriend were charged with the death of 8-month-old Leelan Crain in September 2013.

Casey Crain, of Salem, is charged with a felony charge of neglect of a dependent.

Salem police say 24-year-old James "Jamie" Lykin, beat the child to death at the couple's home on Ridgeview Drive in Salem.

Leelan was taken to St. Vincent Salem Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 8th after being found bruised, not breathing well and semi-conscious. The baby was taken by helicopter to Kosiar Children's Hospital where he died on Sept. 9. According to an autopsy report, Leelan died from blunt force trauma to the head and had various levels of bruising and other signs of abuse.

Lykins was arrested Sept. 9. He is charged with battery resulting in the death and neglect of a dependent, both class Afelonies.

Lykins had been living with Crain since Leelan was a month old and told police he thought of the baby as his own son.
